Prince Edward Island has released the details of its scheduled May 20 draw.
The province invited a total of 155 immigration candidates through its Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
Most of the invitations, 138, were issued to Express Entry and Labour Impact candidates. The remaining 17 invitations went to Business Impact candidates who had a minimum point threshold of 80.
PNPs allow Canada’s provinces and territories to select immigration candidates who meet their labour market needs. This is true of Prince Edward Island, which administers the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) within federally approved guidelines.
Immigration to P.E.I., like elsewhere in the country, has declined over the past year, largely due to travel restrictions. However, the federal government plans to make up the shortfall and achieve an ambitious immigration target in 2021. Under the PNPs Canada’s target is to admit 80,800 new immigrants this year.
In order to be considered for a provincial nomination from P.E.I., Express Entry candidates need to create an EOI profile with the PEI PNP. EOI profiles are given points based on the province’s unique point’s grid. The highest-scoring candidates are then invited to apply through monthly draws.
